Marathon volunteer

30/October/2011

There was the 2011 adidas Auckland Marathon. John and I had applied for a volunteer by Rayoung sis a few months ago.
I went at Victoria park by around 6:30 with Tori. We arranged in the finish zone to assist marathoners. My mission was encouraging marathoners and keeping moving to a chip correcting area.
At the first, I was a little bit shy but as time goes by I can shout loudly.
"Well done guys~ good job! please keep moving~. "
"Nice work guys~ please keep moving!"
"Sorry guys please don't stay here."
"Im sorry but please don't stop here."
"Chip corrects around the corner. Please keep moving!"
These are something that I spoke mainly.
It finished at around 12pm and then we drank some free beer lol~~ as well as had a addidas t-shirt, a red cap and some snacks.
Actually I had naver done a volunteer before even in Korea. It was really hard job dislike my thinking but really good experience.

First experience

25/October/2011

I took a message yesterday regarding a cafe assistant, so I contacted them in the morning and I went to the cafe for an interview.
It is not far from my home. It takes 10 minutes on the bus. Anyway I had some interview with her who seems owner and is a chinease. She seems to have a strong leadership. Anyway I have some preactice during around 30minutes. She let me know how to serve and clean stuff. After that, she said that she worried about my English skill. yes..I know that..I am not good at speaking English. Anyway she said that she will contact me today or tomorrow. I am just waiting her contact, but it is really hard time to me.Anyway I kind of hope I can work there! at Park Espresso!!

NSIA Barista Practice

Headache

6/Sep/2011

I drank Liesling wine for the first time. This wine's name is "Stoneleigh" which is made in Marlborough. Its flavour was sweet and I could feel some fizzy taste while its fruit flavour was less storng than Oyster Bay(Sauvignon Blanc) drunk by Jenny's suggestion last week. That reminds me it was made in Marlbotough as well. Even though I just took a sip of wine, I had have a headache because of overdrinking at weekend. Today's dinner menu which was a white sea food and Liesling wine was excellent harmony, but I couldn't enjoy them. I should rest... for a while byebye wine~

Bar person practice!

3/Sep/2011

I finished to practice in the school restaurant yesterday.
My position was a bar person. It was the first time to make drinks, but it was really interesting!
There was another bar person, who is a Chinese class mate. He had had exprience as a bartender, so I could make them by help of him. He kindly told me how to make them and made me comfortable.
I felt a bartender is such an attractive job. Moreover, beverage business can make lots of profits, as Catrina said, "Open a bar!" :D

Restaurant practice as a server

1/Sep/2011

I had restaurant practice as a server in my schol restaurant. I had prepared some English sentence for serving, because I was so nervous. This was effective and I became calm during preparing service. I took two tables and my first customers were Sri rankans. Fortunately they orderd same dishes, so I could serve easily. In the middle of time, I took the second order of customers who were maybe kiwi. Whenever I served, they always said "Thank you.", so I confused a little bit if I should always answer "You're welcome." or just smile. At that time, I just smiled except saying "you're welcome." one time. Now I think it seems  toi bep betteri tos answere "My pleasure."
Another episode is that some customer gestured as if he needs a pen for writing, so I gave my pen to him. He said "You're so organised." I didn't know the mean is quick at the moment. Anyway I was glad to have praise from the customer. He gave back the pen directly with leaving and saying "Thank you."
As a result of practicing, I think it was very hard physically (too heavy plates and standing too long time for around 4 hours), while it was good experience to have confidence for myself, though I made some mistakes.
I am doing as a bar person tomorrow. I hope it will be good time as well.
